The short course on the gospel of John provides an overview of the gospel’s perspective, setting, structure, and message. John’s purpose was to show Jesus of Nazareth as divinity incarnate. Dr. Cohick’s approach examines the gospel in two sections after the prologue: The Book of Signs and the Book of Glory with the story of the raising of Lazarus as the hinge between the two. She presents evidence to resolve a sometimes-perceived discrepancy between the day of Jesus’s crucifixion in the synoptic gospels and the gospel of John. She also addresses a misperception that John’s references to “the Jews” may have an anti-Semitic connotation.
