John’s purpose was to show Jesus of Nazareth as divinity incarnate. Dr. Cohick’s approach examines the gospel in two sections after the prologue: The Book of Signs and the Book of Glory with the story of the raising of Lazarus as the hinge between the two. She presents evidence to resolve a sometimes-perceived discrepancy between the day of Jesus’s crucifixion in the synoptic gospels and the gospel of John. She also addresses a misperception that John’s references to “the Jews” may have an anti-Semitic connotation.
