Big Idea: The Church is to Pursue Unity by focusing on the unifying message of the Gospel
Text: 1 Corinthians 1:10-17
Main points:
1. A Request for Unity (v. 10)
2. A Report of Division (v. 11-12)
3. Paul’s Response (v. 13-17)
Pastor's Note:
What does it take to have a united church? It takes every member of the body setting aside their own preferences and functioning for the benefit of one another. As a church, we pursue unity by focusing on what unites us, not what divides us. The church in Corinth did not understand this mission, and thus, they fell into the temptation to use and abuse the gifts they had been given by God for themselves. They were divided because they considered the man to be more important than the message. Let us not make the same mistake by actively pursuing unity of heart and mind as we serve the Lord together
1 Corinthians 1:10, “Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same judgment.”
